How is InPlace Different?
Local Empowerment
is our Priority
We don’t just talk about working with local communities. It has been the core of our programming for over twenty years. Local partners take the lead on trips. In doing so, we work as equals and strive to create lasting cross-cultural relationships built on mutual respect and reciprocity.
Authentic Immersion
We work in culturally and environmentally sensitive areas, and minimize our impact through professional instruction and small groups. Participants should be ready for a genuine experience, as our trips are low to the ground and, at times, involve very basic living conditions. Join us if you can deal with adversity with a sense of humor, are open-minded and work well in teams.
Intercultural Engagement
We value connection and growth and believe learning never stops. Our goal is to grow alongside our partners and participants. We view programs as an opportunity to share ways of knowing from multiple perspectives, build soft skills necessary for the workplace and develop lifelong friendships
Responsible Travel
Grounded in principles of responsible travel, our programs maintain the welfare of the communities and the integrity of the environments we visit. Read more about our Principles of Responsible Travel.
Affordable Programs
We understand that study abroad is an investment and try to keep our programs as cost-effective as possible. Learn more about scholarships and financial aid.
Proven Track Record
For over 20 years, InPlace has run study abroad & travel programs that keep health, wellness and safety at the forefront. We have 24/7 support and work directly with medical providers and Western Washington University to care for our students and communities.
At InPlace we believe that study abroad is just the beginning. Our goal is to offer a variety of opportunities for alumni to get involved at home, and use the skills they learn abroad to work in their own communities. We are committed to helping you build the skills necessary for your future career, while making a positive impact.
Our decision-making processes throughout the pandemic have been grounded in our values. We have been intentional in our approach to stay true to our mission. This year, we have continued to implement strategies to connect our network through peer-peer learning, hone our model for change and community-driven development, and tackle challenging issues like climate change.
